In 1911, American race car driver Louis Chevrolet founded the CHEVROLET Engine COMPANY. Beginning in 1918, CHEVROLET became a licensed manufacturer under GENERAL EngineS. Today, the company is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the USA. CHEVROLET produces a variety of passenger cars, as well as the Corvette sports model. The controversial CHEVROLET Corvair with rear air-intake started being produced in 1959.
